Work For Lodgings is a networking platform to enable people to connect. It is not an agency so Guest-workers cannot be found for you. As a registered Host, you can search the list of registered Guest-workers for a candidate that matches your criteria, such as skillset, languages spoken, availability, etc.

Can you find me accommodation?

Work For Lodgings is a networking platform to enable people to connect. It is not an agency so accommodation cannot be found for you. As a registered Guest-worker, you can search the list of Host projects for work and accommodation that matches your criteria, such as work to be provided, languages spoken, availability, etc.

How do I get started?

To make full use of the Work For Lodgings platform, you need to register. If you are offering your skills in return for accommodation, then you will need to register as a Guest-worker. If you are a property owner, or have the use of property, and you are offering accommodation in exchange for some work that needs doing, then you will need to register as a Host. Is there a minimum age for using Work For Lodgings?

Yes, the minimum age requirement is 18 years old. The reason for imposing this minimum age is because in most countries you need to be 18 to have the right to work.

Is there a maximum age for using Work For Lodgings?

No, there is no maximum age limit for joining and using Work For Lodgings. Very often, older people have greater skillsets and more work experience.

Can I complain about another member of Work For Lodgings?

Yes. We appreciate feedback on Work For Lodgings members, good or bad. If we receive very negative feedback or complaints about a particular member, we reserve the right to take that member’s account offline and even delete the account.

Is Guest-worker membership really free?

For the moment, yes! Maintaining a portal is not cheap, so as time goes by and the Work For Lodgings network grows, we will review if we can continue to keep membership free.

How do I apply to a Host for accommodation?

Hosts publish their work/accomodation offerings as “projects” on Work For Lodgings. You can browse and search Host projects on the site. When you find a project that interests you, you can apply for the project by clicking on the “Apply Online” button in the project description. This will allow you to prepare and send an application for the project to the Host. The application includes your e-mail address, your message and any attachments that you add to the application.

The Host can review your application, and decide to either accept it or reject it. In your list of applications, which you can view by clicking on the “My Applications” button on your home page, you can check the status of your application.

Can I find paid work on Work For Lodgings?

Yes. Work For Lodgings is about exchange, and it may be that a Host offers payment as well as accommodation.

When I accept a project can I bring a pet?

That all depends on the project. Some Hosts will accept pets, others not. Also, the location of the project or the hours of work required might make looking after a pet very difficult.

Do you provide help to acquire a visa?

No. If you are visiting a different country for your Work For Lodgings project, you will need to acquire the required volunteering/working visa. Sometimes Hosts can help with this process.

Is Host membership really free?

How do I offer my accommodation to Guest-workers?

By clicking on the “Post a Project” button on your home page, you can publish your work/accomodation offering as a “project” on Work For Lodgings. Guest-workers can browse and search projects on the site. A Guest-worker can apply for your project by sending you an application for the project. The application includes the Guest-worker’s e-mail address, a message and any attachments that were added by the guest-worker.

The application appears in your list of applications. You can see the list by clicking the “Applications” button on your home page.

You can review the application, and decide to either accept it or reject it. If you accept it, you can contact the host by e-mail.

What do you do about spam?

Nobody likes spam as it wastes valuable time and resources. We do take measures to prevent it on the Work For Lodgings platform. If a user sends the same text to multipe members, using copy and past for example, we reserve the right to take that user’s account offline until the problem is resolved. We want to keep Work For Lodgings fully operational.

Can I offer payment for work in addition to accomodation?

Yes. Work For Lodgings is about exchange, and it may be that work merits payment as well as free accommodation.

Should I allow Guest-workers bring pets?

That all depends on the accomodation that your are providing and the project. Some accommodation is suitable for keeping pets, others not. Also, the location of the project or the hours of work required might make it difficult for your Guest-worker to look after a pet.

I don't appear to be receiving emails from Work For Lodgings?

It may be that your emails are going to your spam/junk/bulk folder. We recommend that you add workforlodgings.com to your ‘Approved Sender’ list, within your email reader.

How do I reset my password?

If you enter the wrong password when trying to login to your account, you will be presented with a link “Lost your password?”. Follow this link to reset your password.

If you are logged into your account and you want to change your password, click on the “Change Password” button on your home page.
